Biography

Padraic Rowan first completed a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, before graduating from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2013 with a Masters in Music Performance, studying with Mary Brennan and Brenda Hurley (répétiteur). A Jerwood Young Artist at the 2014 Glyndebourne Festival, Padraic joined the Staatsoper Stuttgart Opera Studio for the 2016/17 season and is also a 2018 laureate of Le Jardin des Voix, the young artist programme of William Christie’s Les Arts Florissants. He joined the Stipendiat Ensemble of Deutsche Oper Berlin in their 2019/20 season, and moved to the Festes Ensemble in August 2020, where he is currently based.

A Next Generation Bursary Award recipient from the Arts Council of Ireland, successes include First Prize at the 2016 Les Azuriales Opera International Singing Competition in France, winner of the 2016 Bernadette Greevy Bursary Award and recipient of the 2016 Jim McNaughton/TileStyle Artist's Bursary at the 25th Allianz Business to Arts Awards in Dublin.

Operatic engagements include Bartolo / Le nozze di Figaro (Staatsoper Berlin), Dottore Grenvil / La traviata (Semperoper Dresden), Ssurin / The Queen of Spades and Theseus / A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Momus / Platée (Theater an der Wien and Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona), Littore / L’incoronazione di Poppea (Salzburg Festival), Il Sagrestano / Tosca (Staatsoper Stuttgart and Oper Leipzig), Sprecher / Die Zauberflöte (Irish National Opera), Jesus / Matthäus-Passion (Theater Basel).

​Concert engagements include Messiah (Les Arts Florissants and Komische Oper Berlin), Weihnachtsoratorium (Thomanerchor Leipzig), Matthäus-Passion (Athens Symphony Orchestra), Mozart Requiem (Irish Chamber Orchestra) and further performances in venues such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie de Paris, Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Auditorio Nacional de Música Madrid and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts-Weiwuying Taiwan. Under the direction of Emmanuelle Haïm, Padraic performed works from Handel as part of the 2015 Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

2024/25 season highlights include a return to Semperoper Dresden and Irish National Opera, a European tour with Les Arts Florissants, concerts with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and roles including Papageno and Henry Kissinger at his home house of Deutsche Oper Berlin.

The 2025/26 season includes further leading roles at Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as concerts with Thomanerchor Leipzig and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
